I’ve had people actually laugh at me when I expect them to respect a deadline I chose myself. Apparently some people think it’s not really important if someone else isn’t making you do it or waiting for your product. I’m the opposite: I think it’s kind of sad if the only deadlines you respect are the ones imposed upon you by someone else.

Sorry man, my writing is serious business, and if I treated it like it was a low priority based on other people’s impositions on my time, I’d never get anything done!

  • This one hits home, big time. I treat writing like a full time job, I give it 30 to 40 hours a week. But some people in my life don’t respect my personal deadlines because I’m not getting paid, so it’s not a “real” job. Funny thing is, no one would’ve dared say the same thing when I was a stay-at-home mom.

    • Ugh, I do know people who don’t consider being a stay-at-home mom a “real” job though. “Oh what do you mean you don’t have time to do it, you don’t have a job, you just stay home all day.” WOW. Such rampant cluelessness.

      • I should’ve said they wouldn’t say it to my face, lol. I work full time now, and I can say, without a doubt, I did more work as a stay-at-home mom. It’s amazing to me how some people can define other people’s priorities based on their own limited view of what matters.
